I don't even know what to say about this movie. It is silly for sure. And there are a lot of funny parts in it. But would I want to see it again? Maybe not.
Adam Sandler plays Bobby Boucher, a backwards country boy whose chosen career path is that of a waterboy, or, as he likes to call it, a "water filtration engineer". Anyway, after having been pushed around and picked on for years, a lot of rage has built up inside of him.
Henry Winkler (aka, The Fonz), as Coach Klein, agrees to hire him on as waterboy for his sorry football team. After his players begin picking on their new waterboy, Coach Klein prods Bobby to stand up for himself. Oh, and does he ever. The result is that Bobby, with his pent up anger, becomes the greatest tackler known to man. He is immediately placed on the roster, and, after taking some time to learn the game, Bobby transforms Klein's team into a football juggernaut.
The story also involves Bobby's overprotective mama, played by Kathy Bates. Adding yet another dimension to the movie is Bobby's trashy, yet sexy, girlfriend, Vicki Vallencourt, played by Fairuza Balk. I will admit, the movie is funny and corny as it was intended. There are a lot of little surprises that make this movie endurable and enjoyable.
This movie had enough originality to it to warrant my approval.
